Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? Wondering how it feels to be in a band? Whatever your experience or ability, we are here to help you reach your musical goals. In addition to private lessons for guitar, lap steel guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, drums, piano, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, baritone, french horn, harmonica, voice, music theory and songwriting, Twin Town Guitars also provides a variety of group-based and band-style music programs which include live stage performance opportunities.

Classes for All Ages


Private Lessons

From beginning to advanced, traditional to experimental, we offer on-site lessons in comfortable studios for guitar, lap steel guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, drums, piano, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, baritone, french horn, harmonica, voice, music theory and songwriting. Lessons are available seven days a week. We also produce winter and spring recitals at relaxed and local venues that are exciting for everyone!

Sampler Session

Not sure where to begin? Join us for the private lesson Sampler Session that includes 2 bass, 2 drum, 2 guitar, and 2 keyboard lessons. You don't need to own these instruments to attend, and at the end of the class, we'll provide you with a recommendation and options for continuing lessons with your chosen instrument.

Band Buddy Duos

If you and a friend or a parent play the same instrument and would like to start taking lessons together, this is the class for you. The Band Buddy Duos program offers six lessons with a high level of instructor attention for you and your buddy, and it is available for guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, drums, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trombone, french horn and trumpet. (Students supply their own instrument, or instruments can be purchased at Twin Town Guitars.)

Classes for Youth & Teens


*NEW 1, 2, 3 Music & Me

This six week class prepares adult/child pairs for music lessons by sharing the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and harmony through engaging and interactive singing, musical games, and movement. Spend hands-on time with different timbered instruments, both tuned and non-tuned, as well as experiment with each of the instruments' unique musical qualities. Fun and loads of laughter included at no extra charge!

This six week class prepares children for private lessons by encouraging the development of fundamental music skills and ideas, as well as independent practice. Classes include elements of the following musical themes; rhythm, melody, expression and context. Students learn to listen, create, and perform through exploration and play!

*NEW Drum Group for Beginners

In this six-week long class, learn about rhythm and basic drumming technique, all while playing on anything from trashcans to pots and pans! This introduction to the wild world of percussion gives students an opportunity to explore the meaning of a beat and more. Also included are a pair of drumsticks and a live performance.

U is for Ukulele

During this six-week group session full of laughter and learning, discover the joy and simplicity of playing ukulele. No previous music experience is required, just your ukulele, your child or grandchild, and you. (Ukuleles are available for purchase at Twin Town Guitars starting at $35. All participants need an instrument.)

Ukesters (U is for Ukulele Part 2)

This six-week long class is a continuation of U is for Ukulele. We'll learn more chords, more songs, and we'll sing and laugh. We'll also perform for family and friends at the end of the session. (Prerequisite: U is for Ukulele)

Youth Band

Have fun rocking out with a band! Instructor and local musician, Dave Mehling, helps students pick a band name, practice songs, try a new instrument, and learn the skills needed to perform on stage. This six-week session concludes with a live performance at a local venue!

Bridge Band

If you are ready to move past Youth Band, this is the place for you. Instructor, Nick Baker, leads these rockers through eight weeks of fun rehearsals, and the class ends with a live stage performance!

Slide into the cool world of Jazz with Nelson Devereaux, local and world musician. Learn some jazz standards, and learn how to improvise within a group. Brass, woodwind, percussion, bass and guitar students are all welcome to join. This six-week class ends with a performance at a local venue.

Teen Band - Drums Filled

Grab your instrument and rock out in a band! Local musician, Nick Baker, leads this group through rehearsals, while students work to sharpen playing and stage performance skills. This eight-week session ends with a live performance at a local venue.

Fall String Pops

This class is an opportunity for string (violin, viola, cello and bass) students to play fun music from the radio, film and more. Performance selections include arrangements of pop and rock songs, music from Lindsey Stirling, 2 Cellos, The Piano Guys and themes from films and video games. Groups are formed based on age and skill level. Ability to read music is required.

Youth & Teen Band Camp 2020 - Sessions I & II

In this two-week long summer camp, students work with instructors to develop their skills as musicians while working in a group. Daily lessons focus on topics such as microphone and voice work, improvising, stage presence, and songwriting. Students select a band name, rehearse several songs, and record their music before heading to a live stage performance at a local venue!

Girl Powered Band Camp 2020 - Sessions I & II

We've got an amazing summer camp just for girls! In this fun and friendship building, two-week long camp, girls work with instructor, Rachelle Smith, to develop and hone their skills as musicians. Focusing on improvisation, stage presence and songwriting, the group concludes with a recording session and a live stage performance for family and friends!

Summer Uke Rock Camp 2020

Join us for five fun-filled classes where ukulele students learn new chords, work on strumming skills, play some super summer songs, complete a couple musical crafts, and end the class with an exciting performance at a local venue! (Prerequisite: Knowledge of C, F, G, Chords.)

Join Nelson Devereaux, local and world musician, as he leads instrumentalists through the basics of playing jazz. Learn the lingo of jazz, how to improvise, and play several jazz standards in a supportive and inspiring setting. Brass, woodwinds, percussion, bass and guitar students are welcome to join. This six-week class ends with a performance at a local venue!

Adult Jam

Get together with a group of people and form a band! With the guidance of musician, Mark Wade, of the Melismatics, students rehearse a set list of songs from indie to classic rock, and after six weeks, conclude with a live stage performance at a local venue!

Twin Town Tributes: Women of Classic Country

Join local musician, Chris Holm, as he takes this group through music by classic country icons. From Patsy Cline to Loretta Lynn to Dolly Parton to Tammy Wynette, learn songs written and performed by the women who are the heart of classic country! This six-week class ends with a performance at a local venue.

Twin Town Tributes: The Cure

Join Ryan Smith, guitarist of Soul Asylum, as he leads this tribute band through the amazing sounds of The Cure. It will be just like heaven! This six-week class ends with a lively performance at a local venue.

Songwriting

Learn about songwriting and gain confidence in your ability to write, with local musician and songwriter, Ryan Smith. This course provides a road map of basic song structure, valuable practices that unlock jammed creative gears, individual support and feedback, and group writing activities. Come away from this four-week course with the skills to continue developing your songwriting. You also have the opportunity to perform your songs at a live venue!

Blues Harmonica

Get your blues on with Minneapolis musician and songwriter, Chris Holm. Chris teaches basic theory and melodies, as well as bending, vibrato and trill effects and usage. Please bring a C Harmonica to class. Purchase of both the class and Hohner Special 20 Harmonica are also available.

Group Guitar for Beginners

If you are brand new to playing guitar, or have some experience from years ago, this eight-week class is for you. Group Guitar for Beginners starts at square one with naming the guitar parts, learning guitar care and developing proper technique. You learn simple melodies, a few basic chords, and a song that you get to perform at a Twin Town Guitars music showcase too. If learning to play guitar is on your bucket list, this class is the best place to start!

Six Strings for Six Weeks

If you took Group Guitar for Beginners, this six-week class is your next stop. Continue developing your skills and confidence on the guitar by starting with A, D, E, C, and G chords. Then, we'll add a few more chords, strumming patterns and fun songs. Play with other people at your level in a relaxed setting, and just have fun!

Intermediate Group Guitar

If you've played guitar for a year or more, or if you've dreamed of playing in a band, the eight-week Intermediate Group Guitar class is a great place to sharpen your skills. We'll work on several songs, and if you want to branch out, there are opportunities to play lead parts or melodic riffs. At the end of the session, we'll perform at a Twin Town Guitars music showcase.

We've got a fever and the only prescription is more ukulele! In this six-week class learn how to care for and tune your ukulele. It's Now or Never

If you are kicking yourself for not picking up that guitar you've had for years, or wish you continued taking piano lessons when you were younger, now is the time to get down to business! Beginning Violin Workshop for Adults

This two hour-long violin workshop provides adult learners with the best possible start in learning how to play the violin. Both beginners and people who are looking for a "refresher" will find this class a wonderful fit. You don't need to read music, and you will leave playing a couple tunes! (We also have a few loaner violins available for use during the workshop.)

This workshop covers the theory of major and minor scales, keys, and how they can be used to build chords. Music reading knowledge is not necessary for this class.

Build Your Own Fuzz Pedal

Get an in-depth look into the wild world of fuzz!  This pedal is based on classic designs from the 1960's like the Colorsound Fuzz, Vox Tonebender and Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, but made even better with modern True Bypass Switching, power jack and an LED.  And, know for certain, that before you leave this workshop, you will own an amazing fuzz pedal that you built with your own, two hands!  (No experience required, and space is limited to 5 participants.)
