Private Lessons and Group Classes

Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? Wondering how it feels to be in a band? Whatever your experience or ability, we are here to help you reach your musical goals. In addition to private lessons for guitar, pedal steel guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, drums, piano, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, baritone, french horn, harmonica, voice, music theory and songwriting, Twin Town Guitars also provides a variety of group-based and band-style music programs which include live stage performance opportunities.

Classes for All Ages

Private Lessons

From beginning to advanced, traditional to experimental, we offer on-site lessons in comfortable studios for guitar, pedal steel guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, drums, piano, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, baritone, french horn, harmonica, voice, music theory and songwriting. Lessons are available seven days a week. We also produce winter and spring recitals at relaxed and local venues that are exciting for everyone!

Tuition: $30 (Per 30-Minute Lesson)

Sampler Session

Not sure where to begin? Join us for the private lesson Sampler Session that includes 2 bass, 2 drum, 2 guitar, and 2 keyboard lessons. You don't need to own these instruments to attend, and at the end of the class, we'll provide you with a recommendation and options for continuing lessons with your chosen instrument.

Band Buddy Duos

If you and a friend or a parent play the same instrument and would like to start taking lessons together, this is the class for you. The Band Buddy Duos program offers six lessons with a high level of instructor attention for you and your buddy, and it is available for guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, drums, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trombone, french horn and trumpet. (Students supply their own instrument, or instruments can be purchased at Twin Town Guitars.)

Classes for Youth & Teens

U is for Ukulele

During this six-week group session full of laughter and learning, discover the joy and simplicity of playing ukulele. No previous music experience is required, just your ukulele, your child or grandchild, and you. (Ukulele are available for purchase at Twin Town Guitars starting at $35. All participants need an instrument.)

Ukesters (U is for Ukulele Part 2)

This six-week long class is a continuation of U is for Ukulele. We'll learn more chords, more songs, and we'll sing and laugh. We'll also perform for family and friends at the end of the session. (Prerequisite: U is for Ukulele)

Youth Band

Have fun rocking out with a band! Pick a band name, practice songs, try a new instrument, and learn the skills needed to perform on stage. This eight-week session concludes with a live performance at a local venue!

Bridge Band

If you are ready to move past Youth Band, but are not quite ready for Teen Band, this is the place for you. We are looking for some experienced, serious rockers to rehearse for eight weeks, have some fun, and end the class with a live stage performance!   

Age: 11 to 13 Years

Teen Band

Grab your instrument and rock in a band! Learn how to start a band, how to rehearse, how to select songs, and how to perform on stage. This eight-week session ends with a live performance at a local venue. 

Age: 13 to 16 Years

Chamber Music

Looking for extra motivation in your music studies? Join a chamber ensemble at Twin Town Guitars! This six-week program is an opportunity for students to experience the unique benefits and challenges of playing in a small group of 2-4 peers. Students hone their ensemble skills, broaden their musical horizons, make new friends, and have a lot of fun along the way. Complete the class with a performance at a local venue! Students are grouped by ability and age. (Previous Experience Required: Ability to read music and fundamental skills, such as proficiency in first position and basic rhythm. Private lessons in conjunction with the program are highly recommended, but not required.)

Musical Theater Workshop at Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater

Join experienced music teacher and theater director, Allison Raney, at the amazing Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater, in this musical theater skills class for youth and teen students. Through exercises, students develop stage presence, self-esteem, presentation skills, vocal techniques, audition prep skills, creative movement, and expressive choreography. Explore story-telling, improvisation and character development, while learning what it takes to put on a show. Family and friends are invited to a final performance too!

Youth & Teen Band Camp 2018 - Sessions I & II

In this two-week long summer camp, students work with instructors to develop their skills as musicians while working in a group. Daily lessons focus on topics such as microphone and voice work, improvising, stage presence, and songwriting. Students select a band name, rehearse several songs, and record their music before heading to a live stage performance at a local venue!

Age: Youth 8 to 12 Years & Teen 13 to 17 Years

Girl Powered Band Camp 2018 - Sessions I & II

We've got an amazing summer camp just for girls! In this fun and friendship building, two-week long camp, girls work with instructor, Allison Raney, to develop and hone their skills as musicians. Focusing on improvisation, stage presence and songwriting, the group concludes with a recording session and a live stage performance for family and friends!

Age: Youth 8 to 12 Years

Summer Uke Rock Camp - 2018

Join us for five fun-filled classes where ukulele students learn new chords, work on strumming skills, play some super summer songs, complete a couple musical crafts, and end the class with an exciting performance at a local venue! (Prerequisite: Knowledge of C, F, G, Chords.) 

Age: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grade

Classes for Adults

Adult Jam

Get together with a group of people and form a band! With the guidance of musician, Mark Wade, of the Melismatics, students rehearse a set list of songs from indie to classic rock, and after six weeks, conclude with a live stage performance at a local venue!

Twin Town Tributes: Soul Asylum

Ryan Smith, guitarist of Soul Asylum, is taking this tribute band through some of the pieces that make this Minneapolis-Made band shine. After six rehearsals, this adventure concludes with a live performance!

Twin Town Tributes: Muddy Waters

We got a case of the blues, but it is the best kind! Join local musician, Chris Holm, as he takes this group through the riffs and rides of the great Muddy Waters. This six-week class ends with a performance at a local venue.

Songwriting

Learn about songwriting and gain confidence in your ability to write! This course provides a road map of basic song structure, valuable practices that unlock jammed creative gears, individual support and feedback, and group writing activities. Come away from this four-week course with the skills to continue developing your songwriting. You also have the opportunity to perform your songs at a live venue!

Group Guitar for Beginners

In this eight-week beginner class, learn guitar care, tuning, strumming, chords, and a couple of fun songs. This relaxed introduction to guitar concludes with a group performance at a local venue!

Intermediate Group Guitar

If you took Group Guitar for Beginners or already know a few chords and want to move to the next level, then this fun and stress-free class is for you! Have a great time playing with other students and conclude the class with a group performance at a local venue!

Uke Group for Beginners

We've got a fever and the only prescription is more ukulele! In this six-week class learn how to care for and tune your ukulele. And, each week, we will build on the previous lesson by adding new chords and songs. We will complete the class with a group performance at a local venue! (No previous music experience required, and ukuleles are available for purchase at Twin Town Guitars starting at $30.)

Uke2

If you want to take your ukulele playing to the next level, our six-week Uke2 class is for you. Doesn't matter what shape or color of ukulele you play, we just want to jam with uke!

It's Now or Never

If you are kicking yourself for not picking up that guitar you've had for years, or wish you continued taking piano lessons when you were younger, now is the time to get down to business! This program includes four, weekly lessons and a free loaner instrument if needed. (Available lessons include: guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, violin, keyboard, and vocals.)

Seminars and Workshops

Beginning Violin Workshop for Adults

This two hour-long violin workshop provides adult learners with the best possible start in learning how to play the violin. Both beginners and people who are looking for a "refresher" will find this class a wonderful fit. You don't need to read music, and you will leave playing a couple tunes! (We also have a few loaner violins available for use during the workshop.)

Music Theory Basics

This workshop covers the theory of major and minor scales, keys, and how they can be used to build chords. Music reading knowledge is not necessary for this class.

Build Your Own Boost Pedal

Make your own Germanium Boost pedal in this workshop! (Click for video demo.) Boost your brain and the sound of your guitar by learning the basic parts of this pedal, how the circuit functions, and by gaining the soldering skills to pull it all together. Based on the classic Dallas-Arbiter Rangemaster, this design features a PNP Germanium transistor. Upgrades also include True-Bypass switching, an LED indicator, and a 9v power supply jack. Test your new pedal on a rocking guitar before you leave, and add it to your board for your next show! (No experience required, and space is limited to 5 participants.)
